If speed is what you are looking for, then Synchronous SRAM is just right for your application. Synchronous SRAM uses one or more external clocks to time the access and cycle times to match that of the processor.

Standard synchronous SRAM is commonly used in routers or telecommunication devices as well as industrial instrumentation where they are often used as data buffers (temporary storage) and can be accessed randomly through their high-speed, single data rate (SDR) interfaces. Standard synchronous burst SRAMs are ideal for dominated read or write operations.
