UFS (Universal Flash Storage) was created to replace eMMC and SD cards in mobile devices while removing the need for different adapters for memory cards. It has gained popularity from 2016 onwards.
UFS has a full-duplex interface that allows simultaneous reads and writes. eMMC, meanwhile, uses a parallel or half-duplex interface that only allows one of those operations at a time. UFS also consumes less power as compared to eMMC and is used in mobile applications, smart home appliances or in-vehicle applications.
