- On Die Error Correction Code
DDR5 took a while to standardize: Initially planned for 2018, it was released in July 2020.
In this technology, a new feature called Decision Feedback Equalization (DFE) enables input/output (I/O) speed scalability for higher bandwidth and performance improvement.
DDR5 takes data processing to the next level as it delivers rich features for higher performance, lower power consumption, and improved resilience. Unlike DDR4, all DDR5 chips have on-die error correction code that detects and corrects errors before passing data on. However, it’s important to note that the on-die error correction code is not the same as ECC memory (that has extra error correction chips on the memory module).
