Short term pain long-term gain

Short-Term Pain for a Long-Term Gain?

Technology transitions, supply fluctuations, and changing product lifecycles have turned the memory market upside down. Everyone is looking to get by, and most are looking for a quick fix to relieve their pain. After all, our brain’s limbic system rewards pain avoidance.

Still, we argue that you have to endure the short-term pain to achieve long-term gain. Why and how? Tune into our Podcast “Talking Memory with Nick & Nick” to learn more.

And if you are attending FMS 2026 in Santa Clara this August, you can discuss memory with Nick Urbano directly. He and some members of our US team will be exhibiting at the show on booth 940. Make sure you drop by if you are around.

By September, the summer heat might cool off, but the heat in the memory market most likely won’t. Although price increases will be more moderate, the tight supply conditions are expected to continue in 2027.

As every memory challenge is different, we are providing first-hand guidance at electronica India, from September 14-16 in Bengaluru, as well as electronica in Munich, from November 10 -13.

Whether you're facing allocation risks, product discontinuations, technology transitions, or new AI-driven performance requirements, MEMPHIS helps you make informed memory decisions that support long-term success. Meet us at one of the upcoming exhibitions or reach out directly.

That, however, requires a close relationship with your supplier, a business friendship, as we explain in our newsletter below.

Enjoy the read and reach out if you have any questions or want to discuss your supply situation.

Talking Memory with Nick & Nick

The memory market shows no signs of cooling off. What does this mean for our customers? That's what Nick Urbano, Vice President of Sales Americas, and Nick Florous, our Global Head of Product Marketing, discussed in our Podcast.

The two Nicks described the market trends they see. The hype in AI and the huge investments in this area has a massive effect on industrial and embedded customers. They share they view on how to prepare for the remainder of the year and beyond.

SK Hynix Nasdaq debut

What SK Hynix’s Nasdaq debut means

SK Hynix made history this month with its Nasdaq debut, marking the largest foreign exchange listing in American history.

With this move, SK Hynix aims to get more capital to expand capacity, but more importantly, to close the evaluation gap with other chip companies. Emphasizing that memory, not the CPU, is the driving force behind AI today will change investors' mindset. For industrial customers, this means that they, too, need to think differently about memory.

Because memory will remain short as long as AI investments continue at this level, and they will, as hyperscalers enter long-term contracts.

How AI is reshaping the global memory market

At Hardware Pioneers in June this year, we spoke with New Electronics about how AI is changing how memory is bought, planned and managed across the supply chain.

The demand for AI extends beyond leading-edge technologies, influencing the wider memory ecosystem, including mature products used in industrial and embedded applications. Although the market will remain cyclical, it is no longer predictably cyclical in the way many purchasing teams were used to.

This means that memory procurement is becoming a more strategic activity requiring earlier planning, stronger supplier relationships and a deeper understanding of technology roadmaps.

The Memory Market in 2026

The memory market in 2026 is not a single story – it is two stories running simultaneously, and understanding which one you are in determines whether you are thriving or struggling.

Everyone playing in the AI game is seeing sustained high demand and high prices for premium products. This dynamic is likely to persist over the next two to three years, regardless of broader economic headwinds, putting industries like consumer electronics, industrial IoT or automotive at risk the most.

This requires a new approach to designing products as well as a different view of supplier relationships.

35 Years of Experience Applied to a New Market Dynamic

India’s electronics industry is thriving thanks to government initiatives, local manufacturing expansion, and a rising number of design-led projects across automotive, industrial, and AI-enabled applications. At the same time, access to suitable memory technologies is becoming more challenging, as global supply dynamics shift and manufacturers prioritize next-generation, AI-driven products.

We will exhibit at electronica India 2026, from September 16-18 in Bengaluru, and showcase how we can support India’s rapidly growing electronics and semiconductor ecosystem as a reliable partner in memory supply.
