DDR3 unterstützt Datenraten von 800 bis 2133 Mb/s mit Taktfrequenzen von 400 bis 1066 MHz und verdoppelt damit die Geschwindigkeiten von DDR2. Die DDR3-Standardbetriebsspannungen von 1,5 V und 1,35 V reduzieren den Stromverbrauch um bis zu 30 % im Vergleich zu DDR2.
